Established in partnership with the Gouvernement du Québec, the Eeyou EcoFund is financed through the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP).
Each funding stream is aligned with specific provincial initiatives:
- The Biodiversity Conservation Stream, now open, is supported through funding allocated to Indigenous Peoples under the 2030 Nature Plan and designed to meet new global targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted in 2022.
- The Water Protection & Management Stream (funding and goal-alignment information forthcoming)
- The future Climate Adaptation Stream (funding and goal-alignment information forthcoming)
With more than $6 million already secured for biodiversity conservation and additional resources expected in the years ahead, the Eeyou EcoFund enables Cree communities, organizations, and businesses to design and carry out projects grounded in Cree values, Traditional Knowledge, and environmental stewardship. This collaboration empowers communities to safeguard lands, waters, and wildlife, strengthen resilience to climate change, and promote sustainable development—reflecting a shared commitment to responsible resource management and long-term environmental well-being.
