  • Who can apply for funding?

    Cree communities, councils, recognized organizations, and Cree-owned businesses.

  • What types of projects are eligible?

    Note that at this time, Summer 2025, only the Biodiversity Conservation fund is open. Projects that are eligible are aligned with biodiversity / nature conservation, restoration, protection and education.

    Here are a few examples of projects that align with the EcoFund targets:

  • Do I need a council resolution?

    Council resolution is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

  • What happens after I submit my application form and proposed budget?

    Your application and proposed budget are reviewed, then evaluated by the Selection and Steering Committees.

  • Can I get help to apply?

    Yes! Use the contact form to get in touch with our team for assistance and guidance.

  • How much money is available?

    Over $6 million is already secured for the Biodiversity Conservation Stream, with $2.5M accessible for fiscal year 2025-26. Additional funding is anticipated in the coming years, including funds for other programs focused on Water Protection and Climate Change Adaptation.

  • When can we apply / What is the deadline?

    The Eeyou EcoFund was launched in Summer 2025 to help Cree communities, organizations, and businesses lead projects rooted in Cree values, Traditional Knowledge, and environmental stewardship. Applications are accepted year-round. Project proposals will be evaluated 3-4 times a year, with the first review period in early Fall 2025.

  • Where does the Eeyou EcoFund money come from?

    Each stream of the Eeyou EcoFund is backed by a specific provincial initiative:

    • The Biodiversity Conservation Stream, now open, is supported through funding allocated to Indigenous Peoples under the Gouvernement du Québec’s Nature Plan 2030.

    • The upcoming Water Protection Stream will be financed through the Fonds Bleu.

    • The future Climate Adaptation Stream will draw on the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy.
