FOREST FIRES IN EEYOU ISTCHEE:
LIMITED TRAVEL ADVISORY RECOMMENDATION

NEMASKA, EEYOU ISTCHEE (June 3, 2023)

Due to the forest fire activity in our region as well as south in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, a travel advisory limiting movements during this time is being recommended for members of our communities.  Currently, the Route du Nord from Km2 to Km258, Route 113 between Waswanipi at Km234 and Senneterre at Km40, are closed in addition to all forestry roads in our region.  It is also recommended to not travel to your camps as the shifting winds may quickly change the status of a fire.

FOLLOWING LOCAL INSTRUCTIONS

It is important that you continue to stay alert of any communications from your community and follow instructions provided by your local emergency and public safety services.  They are doing their best to keep us and our communities safe and our entire collaboration is required.

Should there be any changes in the current situation for your community, it is the local leadership in collaboration with emergency and public safety services who will be informing you by all communication means necessary.  Keep listening to your local radio and watching for official updates on social media.

PROTECTING YOUR HEALTH

As we have always done in challenging times, please be attentive to the elderly and neighbours who may need assistance during these times.  If you are concerned about air quality and how to protect your health from its potential effects, please consult these tips from the Cree Board of Health and Social Services available here : How to Protect Your Health
