Galaxy Lithium (Canada) Inc. is proposing the construction, operation and decommissioning of an open-pit lithium mine located approximately 100 kilometres east of James Bay and the Eastmain Cree Community, in Quebec. As proposed, the James Bay Lithium Mine Project would have an estimated mine life of 15 to 20 years, and produce on average 5,480 tonnes of ore per day. The project would include an open-pit mine and concentrator facility, tailings, waste rock, ore and overburden storage areas, as well as related infrastructure.

Comment Period

September 26, 2022 — The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is inviting the public and Indigenous groups to comment on the draft Environmental Assessment Report and the potential environmental assessment conditions for the project.

Comments should be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on November 10, 2022.

Federal Consultation Sessions

  • November 3, 2022: Crees of the Waskaganish First Nation. Kanio-Kashee Lodge (Waskaganish), starting at 6:30 PM, with a Zoom access.
  • November 8, 2022: Cree First Nation of Waswanipi. Community Centre Gymnasium (Waswanipi), starting at 4:30 PM, with a Zoom access.
  • November 16, 2022: Cree Nation of Eastmain. Details of this session aren’t set yet but there will be an in-person session in Eastmain during the evening with a Zoom access.
