Request for Patience and Support Following Tragic Loss in Wemindji

(Wemindji, Eeyou Istchee – March 15, 2018) – On the morning of March 15th, 2018 first responders in Wemindji responded to a call for help. Despite best efforts the life of a young child has been lost. Cree Nation Government and Cree Nation of Wemindji officials are working together with social services to inform family members.

An official statement with more details will be released March 16th, 2018. It is a terrible tragedy to lose a child, the community and family members will need prayers, love and support. At this time leadership asks for the patience of community members and the Cree Nation in general, in particular on social media, while the difficult task of informing and comforting those directly touched by this tragedy is underway.
